Birdwatching from Nuwara Eliya

Delight in the diverse avian wonders of Nuwara Eliya with birdwatching excursions. Explore lush forests and serene lakes, spotting a myriad of colorful bird species in their natural habitats.

Horton Plains National Park is a national park in the central highlands of Sri Lanka that was designated in 1988. It is located at an elevation of 2,100–2,300 m and encompasses montane grassland and cloud forest.

Experience:

Early morning, proceed to Horton Plains National Park with a packed breakfast (Nuwara Eliya to park entrance—one-hour drive). Further up in the hills, the park consists of grasslands and cloud forest in higher, cool climatic conditions. Look for highland open country and forest birds, including endemics, and also butterflies, highland forest mammals, and other wildlife. Return to Nuwara Eliya for lunch. Afternoon visit to Victoria Park in the town or a forest near town. Late afternoon drive to Colombo.
