Nilaveli Diving Sites

Irakkandy wreck (6 - 10 meters)

The Irakkandy wreck is the only available wreck dive in Trincomalee diving tours. It is an ideal place for beginners to explore, and wreck diving is an adventurous diving experience. Irakkandy is the place of the wreck, located in Nilaveli-Trincomalee. The Irakkandy wreck was an 18th-century European steamship and a 15-minute boat ride from the shore.

Presently, the wreck is covered in corals, and it has given life to molluscs; schools of barracuda, angelfish, and parrot fish can be spotted around the wreck.

Pigeon Island (1 meter – 10 meters) 

Pigeon Island is a marine national park and is diversified with many colorful fish and corals. Pigeon Island is located near the Nilaveli coast and 2 km away from the Nilaveli coast. You will explore blacktip reef sharks, turtles, moray eels, and soft and hard corals.

North Reef is located 15–20 minutes away from the shore, and North Reef is the best diving site for discovery divers to advance to open water divers. You will explore colorful fish and corals around the reef. 

Swami Rock (10 m–30 m)

Swami Rock is a historical diving site and is connected with the Koneshwaram historical Hindu temple. You can explore the corals and reef fish.
