Mermaid Hotel & Club sits right on Waskaduwa Beach in the fishing village of Mahawaskaduwa, Kalutara—about 76 km (47 miles) from Bandaranaike International Airport. This tropical retreat has two outdoor pools, a health spa, and simply furnished rooms with private balconies or terraces, each with a CD player and satellite TV.
Sahana Spa offers massage treatments alongside yoga and aerobics classes, and guests can join water polo or water aerobics sessions at the pool or spend time in the games room. The ocean-facing restaurant serves fresh seafood, and drinks can be enjoyed across the property's four bars.
Kalutara District Waskaduwa Beach is right outside, and Kalutara Beach is about 1.4 km further along the coast. Kalutara Bodhiya, one of the few entirely hollow Buddhist stupas in the world and a major pilgrimage site, is about 4 km away—visitors can walk inside beneath the dome to see its painted frescoes. Richmond Castle, a colonial-era mansion built in 1896 whose entrance fees fund a school for underprivileged children, is around 7 km. Waskaduwa and Kalutara North railway stations are both within about 2km for onward coastal travel.
